Beginning at the end of the snowmelt season-usually early May to the middle of June-you are pretty much guaranteed a good show. The waters of Kedron Brook can run throughout summer, but you will undoubtedly enjoy the flume more during times of rushing waters. If you take extra caution, you can walk 20 feet downstream from the trail crossing and stand atop a waterfall ledge, with views of Mount Webster opening up to the north. Although most of the time the water volume is quite low, perhaps only a few inches deep, enough runoff and spray makes exploring the terrain hazardous. The rocks on the trail and around the falls are deceptively slippery. There is a fine trail to the falls, but it is far less used than others in the state park.Įxploring the flume is a dangerous business. Here, the mountain waters of Kedron Brook surge through a narrow flume, slide for a long distance through a slim chute, and eventually begin their steep descent towards the highway far below. Some are heavily visited (Arethusa Falls, Bemis Falls, Ripley Falls, Flume Cascade, Silver Cascade), one is off-trail and infrequently bushwhacked to (Willey Brook Falls), and then there is Kedron Flume. There are at least seven waterfalls within the boundaries of Crawford Notch State Park. Share this page / follow New England Waterfalls on Facebook! Yes, the falls are included as a full chapter within the guidebook Included within the New England Waterfalls guidebook (see below for larger image and additional photographs)Īpproximately 150 feet of vertical drop is viewable from the trail
